Construction History in Europe: collaboration and prospects of research
The Associazione Edoardo Benvenuto is organizing the Seminar Construction History in Europe: collaboration and prospects of research (Genoa, Faculty of Architecture, 28-29 November 2003), promoted by the Dipartimento di Scienze per l'Architettura of the Genoa University.
The Seminar intends to offer an occasion for reflection and for making a balance ten years after the First International Symposium Between mechanics and architecture (Saragozza, August 1993) and on the fifth anniversary of the death of Edoardo Benvenuto, who was both the creator and promoter of that Symposium together with Patricia Radelet-de Grave.
The meeting follows the Seminar La storia del costruire in Italia: didattica e ricerca (Genoa, 6 December 2002) and the First International Congress on Construction History (Madrid, 20-24 January 2003), promoted and co-organized by the Associazione Edoardo Benvenuto. During the Seminar the Edoardo Benvenuto Prize (edition 2003) will be officially delivered.
The work program foresees the presentation of invited communications (max 20 min.), given by specialists coming from various European countries (Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain), which are meant to develop the themes of the following round table open to the public. The invited lecturers are required to summarize on the state of research about Construction History in their own countries and to articulate their interventions according to the following points:
1. Scientific collaboration within the European Union and, in particular, among Belgium, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy and Spain. Lines of research for the following three years.
2. European co-ordination among the institutions of research in the field of Construction History.
3. Organization of yearly seminars of scientific updating. Balance of the initiatives promoted by the group of research Between Mechanics and Architecture.
4. Editorial initiatives for the diffusion of the results of the research. Balance and prospects of the editorial project Between Mechanics and Architecture (Birkhäuser Verlag, Basel).
